About Us

About our school

The International School of Music provides unique, group music courses for students from 2 years of age and incorporating piano from 4 years of age. The ISM system has an emphasis on developing the natural aural and rhythmic ability that all children have. We achieve this by teaching music as a language.

Our aim is to create young musicians who listen, sing, play, read, write, perform and love their music.

Our approach to learning is simple:

  • What you hear you sing
  • What you play you read
  • What you sing you play
  • What you read you write

Testimonials

Loved by Parents, Enjoyed
by Kids

We have had an outstanding experience with Miss Cassie as our piano teacher over the past two years. My daughter started lessons with her, and it has been a joy to watch her thrive. Not only has she learned to read music, but her confidence in playing the piano has blossomed under Cassie’s expert guidance.

Recognizing the positive impact Cassie has had on my daughter, we decided to enroll my older son as well, despite his initial apprehension about starting lessons. It has been wonderful to see him embrace music and enjoy his piano journey just as much.

Cassie’s professionalism and ability to connect with her students make her an exceptional teacher. She fosters a nurturing and encouraging environment, making learning not just effective but enjoyable. We are incredibly grateful to have found Miss Cassie and believe that playing an instrument is a lifelong skill that will benefit our children for years to come. Highly recommended!

We have had two kids learn through ISM Morphett Vale and they both loved the structure and energy of the classes. My youngest has been there for 10+ years and loves the variety that she gets to play.

Theresa

Our family has had an amazing experience with ISM Morphett Vale over the past 13+ years, with all four of our children learning piano there.

Each of them has loved the journey, especially the small group lesson format, which created a supportive, encouraging, and enjoyable learning environment.

Cassie has been the most wonderful teacher — professional, caring, and genuinely passionate about music and helping her students progress.

She has a fantastic way of motivating and nurturing each child’s confidence and ability.

We cannot recommend Cassie or ISM highly enough.

FAQs

Where Music Finds Its True Expression

How often will my child attend classes

Classes are once per week

How long are the lessons

Most group lessons are 45 minutes long; private lessons are typically 30 minutes long

Does my child need to practice at home?

Our rule for practising is “we only practise on the days we eat!” For beginners, this can start with as little as five minutes a day (older children can cope with more). Younger children often need more encouragement and assistance, so please help them sit at the piano, and sing with them while they practice.

Set a regular schedule for practice, so it becomes part of your weekly routine! Practice should be fun; sometimes it may just be singing the words and doing actions for a song. You can play the music tracks in the car on the way to school and get your child to do ‘air pianos’ in the backseat while singing the notes. Putting on mini-concerts for family and friends is also a great way to have fun with their learning!

Do we need a keyboard or piano at home to practice on?

Yes, otherwise it would be like trying to learn to swim while only staying on dry land!

Is it better to have a piano or a keyboard?

Beginner students are encouraged to learn by ear (much like we learn language through the ear before we read), so as long as the instrument is in-tune it will not matter if it is a keyboard or a piano. We prefer electronic keyboards or digital pianos as we can be assured they have the correct pitch and tuning for the student. As an added bonus – they have volume buttons!
